“Fear is the highest fence.” – Dudley Nichols
In this short story, the main character Shay is too held back by his fear of failure that he can’t jump the fence like his family can. He lets his anxiety overwhelm him and prevent him from having confidence in himself. If we let our failures keep us down, we will never learn to pick up ourselves, learn from our mistakes and move on. But if we learn to shake them off and not dwell on them, we will only go forward from there. The fences in our lives are not our obstacles, but our attitudes and how we respond to them. Shay is the first character I have ever created and he is also the main subject of a book that I have been writing and rewriting since I was twelve so he and I go way back:)
