Film Photography
I just love the look of film photographs. Black and white photography definitely creates a different effect, as if stillness and simplicity are emphasized. I still have my film camera so hopefully someday I can have access to a dark room again because I miss using it.

My personal favorite out of my film photography portfolio. One of my good friends who loves nature modeled in Zink Park for me one afternoon. It’s amazing what you can find when you go exploring, that park turned out to be a lot bigger than I thought it was. This photo was honored to be published in TU’s 2016 Stylus Journal of Art and Writing, a collection of student works chosen by fellow students who create the annual journal.

We were on a mission trip in the great St. Louis and on the day we left, we made a quick trip to see the Arch. This is a wall near the monument and its particular design gave me the sense of harsh heaviness. The image captured- someone framed very close to the wall- creates the idea of one feeling weighed down by the busyness in their life. *Over time, the black and white has faded leaving this picture sepia-toned.

This was taken during the same mission trip as the one with the wall. Actually it was on the way to St. Louis, we took a rather long break during the drive at a park in central Missouri. A friend sat down to work on homework and I liked the shot of an empty public space with a single person featured.

Another “action” shot. At the time, I hadn’t been to Turkey Mountain enough to know my way around and not get lost, even with the trail markers. I made the mistake not once but twice of going to Turkey Mountain by myself in the late afternoon; while I was going around shooting pictures it started to get closer and closer to sunset… I panicked slightly but I was able to find my way back to the beginning before it got dark.

I didn’t notice this until after the photo was developed but the wall debris gives the appearance of the contraction, I’m. Essentially the (staged) subject is confronted with the idea of what he thinks of himself. Given his body language i.e. looking down, solemn expression he doesn’t appear to view himself highly. This photo, along with Organic Longings, was honored to be published in TU’s 2016 edition of Stylus Journal of Art and Writing,

From a group of pictures I took of my dad flying and landing a plane. This was the last time that I used my film camera due to no longer having access to a dark room. I didn't develop the pictures which bothers me to this day that I didn't have a say in how they turned out but I did take the pictures.

My dad. He's flown for American Airlines for nearly 40 years, the great majority of that time in flight-test. You'd think my family has gotten to view him fly or ride in his plane, but sadly and very unfortunately, that is not the case. This was the first and only time that I watched him fly. He was flying a plane to Stillwater to be donated to OSU students to study the mechanics of it. I was so proud and thrilled to finally have the opportunity to see him in the air!

We may often feel as though the burdens we carry surround us on every side, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Just as the many sharp rocks seem to enclose the subject, there is yet smooth, still water just feet away from her, reminding us that peace can be reached and is just around the corner in difficult seasons.
